Face Lift - Small Term for a Beautiful Face
An attractive face knows how to convince by the harmony of its proportions and of its expression and mien – this is exactly what a face lift at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery can help achieve.
With increasing age and as a result of environmental impact, this harmony may be influenced in an unwelcome way – the skin will then age visibly. But you don’t have to simply stand by and watch. A face lift will tighten cheeks and neck, making you look younger as a result.

FAQ on Face Lift
Who may benefit from a face lift?
Once your skin and the underlying tissue have lost some resilience, then a face lift may give your face back a fresher, more youthful radiance. For this, the layers of skin and tissue along the cheeks and the neck get tightened.
This may not get rid of all wrinkles, but after a successful face lift, the face and the neck have a clearly more youthful appearance. Moreover, a face lift at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery can also be combined well with other wrinkle treatment techniques.
Your team of Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery will be happy to advise you in detail about which possibilities exist in your particular case. Please feel free to contact us about this.
How do we conduct the face lift?
A face lift will be conducted at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery with general anaesthesia; the operation will take two to three hours. An incision will be made around the ear and along the hairline.
In order to achieve a particularly natural-looking result, the tissue will be tightened in two layers. Not only the skin, but also the underlying layer formed by muscles, connective tissue, and tiny fat deposits (the SMAS layer, superficial muscular aponeurotic system) is detached. In this manner, the individual layers can be tightened in different directions during the face lift.
After tightening the SMAS layer, the skin on top will be smoothened, and excess skin will be removed; then the edges get sutured without exerting any tension. The incisions will heal as discreet, linear scars which can be concealed easily underneath the hair.
What is important following a face lift?
As a rule, you should stay two or three days with us at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. We will remove the stitches after about two weeks.
Depending on the technique used, you should wear a head bandage for two to three days after the face lift. Swellings, discolorations and potentially numbness are normal and will completely disappear after two to three weeks.
Cooling compresses and sleeping with a raised upper body will speed up the healing process. Of course, it is important to avoid any unnecessary tension or stress at the wound edges.
Please plan a timeout of at least three weeks; that’s how long the aftercare phase will take at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. You should refrain from doing any sports, exercise, physical exertion and excessive alcohol intake for approximately six weeks after the face lift. Sunbathing and going to the solarium or sauna are allowed no sooner than six months after the face lift.
We will inform you comprehensively in a detailed personal consultation about how we proceed with the face lift in your individual case. Please feel free to contact us about this.
Which face lift methods are there?
There are several surgical methods to tighten the facial skin. Alongside the traditional face lift which is performed at our Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery according to the SMAS method, there are also the midface lift and the minilift.
What is important before a face lift?
For at least 2 weeks before the face lift, no blood-thinning medication such as aspirin should be ingested. You should also limit the intake of nicotine as much as possible, since nicotine has a negative influence on the wound healing process. Also, for 2 weeks before and after surgery, you should not take any nutritional supplements.
When will I be presentable again after a face lift and will be able to do sports?
About 3 weeks after the face lift, you will be presentable again. You should not perform any kind of sports until after about 6 weeks, and start very gently and carefully.
Which risks are there with regard to a face lift?
Like with any other operation, a face lift also comes with the usual operation risks. These comprise infections, wound healing disturbances or bleeding. Moreover, in very rare cases there may be injuries or inflammations of the facial nerve structures. But our experienced medical specialists are working according to the highest standards of safety and hygiene so that the risks of a face lift can be kept at a particularly low level.
How long will the treatment results of a face lift last?
The effect of a face lift will as a rule last for about 10 years. Impacting influences are e.g. sunshine, smoking, or even genetic disposition.
Subsequently, a face lift may be repeated upon request at any time.
When can I put on makeup again after my face lift?
Applying makeup is possible without any concerns after about 12 days, as soon as stitch removal will have taken place.
May a face lift be repeated?
Yes, a face lift can be repeated as a rule about 3 times.
Does a face lift hurt?
As a rule, tightening the facial skin is not painful. If pain should occur after the operation, however, it can be countered effectively by means of current anti-pain medication.
How much does a face lift in Nuremberg cost?
The costs for face lift at our Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery start at 9,000 €. Depending on the treatment effort, these may, however, vary from patient to patient. We will be happy to prepare an individual cost calculation for you during a personal consultation.
