Maintain Your Positive Charisma!
Our mood is written in our faces: a total of 26 muscles and their fine interplay enable us to perform lightning-fast very differentiated movements on the surface of our face – and these facial expressions often tell the people around us more than a thousand words. Our facial expressions thus are an important factor defining our appearance, our effect, and how we are regarded by others.
Eight muscles are primarily important for our facial expression. Their activity is bound to leave traces in the tender facial skin over the course of our life, just like the natural ageing process – both are inevitable. A wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, however, offers the opportunity to mitigate and smoothen those traces.
Botulinum toxin is a natural protein which is formed by various bacteria strains of the genus clostridium. If it gets into our body, it will block the transfer of nerve impulses. Since the 1980’s, botulinum toxin – strongly diluted and well-tolerated – has been used for treating neurological movement disorders. In the early 1990’s, this substance was also discovered by aesthetic medicine for smoothing wrinkles. And that’s exactly the purpose for which we use it at our Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

FAQ on Wrinkle Treatment with Botulinum Toxin
Who may benefit from a wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin?
A wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery is particularly suitable to treat dynamic wrinkles. Those are wrinkles resulting from our facial movements and which sometimes become visible very early. Cases in point are:
- Frown wrinkles (glabella wrinkles) – people frowning often, be it consciously or unconsciously, thus promote the forming of such vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows.
- Forehead wrinkles – horizontal lines running across the forehead are caused e.g. by looking sceptically and raising one’s eyebrows.
- Crow’s feet wrinkles (periorbital wrinkles) – these wrinkles emanate like rays from the outer corner of the eye and get deepened by the contractions of the muscles around the eye (circumorbital ring) when squinting your eyes as it is done when laughing, something we otherwise can’t get enough of.
- Nasolabial folds – they run from the nose to the corner of the mouth, the labial angle. Over time, they will increase, since the cheeks will sag over the course of the years, and they give us an involuntarily sullen look.
How do we perform a wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin?
During a wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the substance is injected directly into the respective facial muscle. There, it will block the muscle movement in a targeted manner, thus preventing a too strong tension of individual facial muscles – the wrinkles will smoothen. The full effect unfolds after a few days and will generally last up to six months. Once the effect subsides, it’s no problem to repeat the wrinkle treatment with Botox® at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
We will adapt the wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin precisely and individually to you and will discuss beforehand, which medication you should temporarily discontinue to use, if any. Before the treatment, the injections points are gently and carefully disinfected. Then, taking a very fine needle, the exact amount of the substance – tailored to you individually – is injected into the muscle directly underneath the wrinkle. The decisive parameter for a successful treatment is the exact dosage of the substance as well as a precise needle positioning. Thanks to the long experience at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin and thanks to our careful preparation, any theoretically possible complications are in fact extremely rare.
What is important after a wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin?
After the injection, cooling the injection points feels pleasant and will in general quickly diminish any slight reddening or swelling. Only a few hours after the wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin, you can already apply make-up. A few days later, the first effects become visible, and about two weeks after the treatment, the final result will have been achieved. At this time, we will decide together with you during a follow-up appointment at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery whether another, small dose of botulinum toxin should be injected. The effect will last half a year on average. When exactly the wrinkle-smoothing effect will start to lessen, is different from one person to the next. The good thing about it: the wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin can generally be repeated again without any problem.
We will inform you comprehensively in a detailed personal consultation about any potential risks as well as how we will proceed with our treatment in your individual case.
Please feel free to contact the team of Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery about this.
What is important prior to a botulinum toxin injection?
If you suffer from a skin or muscle disease, a bleeding disorder or a neurological disorder, a treatment with botulinum toxin is not suitable for you. Also, you must not be pregnant or breast-feeding. Acute infections (colds), taking antibiotics or blood-thinning medication (aspirin) are also factors that exclude a treatment with botulinum toxin. Also, when you are allergic to botulinum toxin, you cannot have such a wrinkle treatment.
Whether there is any contraindication in your case, the doctor will of course discuss with you personally during the preliminary consultation.
Feel free to pay for your treatment in instalments. Here you can find further information about Financing.
