Arm lift – because exercise sometimes just isn’t enough
Many people who have successfully lost weight and nearly reached their ideal weight experience an unwelcome phenomenon: flaccid upper arms. Even if the muscle at the rear side of the arm, the triceps, is strengthened by training – often the skin on the lower side of the upper arm will stay lax and hang down as a loose fold of skin. For these cases, an arm lift performed at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery may provide a remedy.

FAQ on Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
Who may benefit from an arm lift?
It is important that the arm lift is performed only after you’ve finished losing weight and don’t plan any further important weight loss, because otherwise the skin could once again become flaccid again.
Should there still be depots of fatty tissue along the upper arms despite a healthy diet and sports, a combination with liposuction performed at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery may make sense. If the skin still possesses sufficient elasticity, then liposuction alone may even be enough.
We’d like to discuss the arm lift treatment procedure and the options available to you in your individual case in a comprehensive and detailed personal consultation. Please contact us for further information.
How do we perform the arm lift?
With an arm lift operation, a scar on the inside of the upper arms is unfortunately unavoidable; but at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the incisions will be positioned in such a way as to be as unobtrusive as possible and to be invisible from the front.
During the treatment, excess skin will be removed by a longitudinal incision at the inner side of the upper arm, and the tension from the topmost skin layer will be compensated by means of a particular suturing technique. In some cases, a rhomboid patch of skin in the armpit area has to be removed as well. In mild cases of flaccid skin, this latter method may even be enough.
Depending on the extent of the arm lift, the operation will be performed under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia, respectively. The operation will last about one to one and a half hours. Before closing the wound, we will insert thin drainage tubes; they will drain the wound secretion, thus helping to prevent an infection. Directly after the operation, a compression bandage will be applied.
What is important following an arm lift?
Take at least two, better even three weeks to rest and regenerate after the arm lift. During this time, any exertion or sudden movements of the arms have to be avoided so that the wounds can heal well. You have to observe very strict compliance in wearing the compression sleeves for four weeks in order to alleviate swelling and to support aesthetic skin healing. The drainages will be removed after about 2–3 days at the Nürnberger Klinik for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery; the stitches will be removed after about 2–3 weeks. Please refrain from doing any sports or exercise for six weeks, and don’t sunbathe or go to the solarium for six months.
We will inform you comprehensively in a detailed personal consultation about any potential risks as well as how we will proceed with our treatment in your individual case. Please feel free to contact us about this.
